Our Story: A Family Passion
How it all began…
From a very young age, entrepreneurship has been one of my greatest passions.
At the age of 10, my mother taught me how to sew. I began helping her in her home workshop, back in Colombia, my country of origin. After school, I would do small tasks in the production of garments.
As the years went by, my dream of becoming an entrepreneur grew stronger. I studied business at university, which nurtured my entrepreneurial spirit. While I was studying, my husband Estevan and my mother Rosi partnered to run their own sewing workshop. I knew that my background in business would eventually allow me to join them and manage the administrative side of the company.
One morning, on my way to university, I saw how overwhelmed they were with work. I decided to stay and help. After that day working with my family, I never left the workshop again.
From Colombia to Canada: A Journey of Heart and Resilience
Since Estevan is Canadian, we made the decision to start over in Canada.
In our apartment, we bought our first sewing machine and began making clothes. Little by little, the business took shape:
- We rented our first space
- Bought more sewing machines
- Hired our first employees
With these solid foundations, our business began to grow.
Many new people joined Couture Porte-Bonheur, allowing us to expand our services to meet the needs of local designers. Today, we’re proud to have a team of 40 people representing over 10 different nationalities.
Providing great working conditions and offering opportunities for newcomers to integrate is one of our core values.
A Family Business with International Reach
In 2021, my brother Camilo and his wife Leidy joined our team.
Back in Colombia, they owned a textile factory with over 100 employees. Their extensive expertise helped take Couture Porte-Bonheur to a whole new level.
I feel incredibly lucky to work every day with my family and our amazing team. Together, we are the big Couture Porte-Bonheur family.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to my mother, Rosi, for teaching Estevan, Camilo, Leidy, and me the art of sewing.
It’s largely thanks to you that Camilo and I were able to build our own businesses and come together today at Couture Porte-Bonheur.
